Coffee as the spice behind high production in the tertiary industry.

in #farms5 years ago

Coffee was introduced into the developing countries during the colonial era by the colonialists. However, before this period some parts of Africa like Ethiopia, Northern Kenya were already cultivating this crop. It served as a raw material in the developing countries. There are two main varieties Robuster coffee typical of the coastal regions and Arabica coffee in the western highlands of Cameroon.

Coffea arabica also known as the Arabian coffee, "coffee shrub of Arabia", "mountain coffee", or "arabica coffee", is a species of Coffea. It is believed to be the first species of coffee to be cultivated, and is the dominant cultivar, representing some 60% of global production. Pollination of this crop is mostly dominated by Bees before other agents.
It is an annual cash crop cultivated mostly in rural areas for want of land is done by the ageing population like the case in Cameroon and it serves as a source of income.

However, weeding of the farm is mostly in the rainy period while tilling of the soil is in the dry season. The cultivation of this crop has drop drastically due mainly to declining or fallen prices in the market, thus discouraging farmers who now prefer cocoa production. Also, in other parts of the world such as Latin America, Caribbean's, etc
It is produced from the less acidic, more bitter, and more highly caffeinated robusta bean (C. canephora) makes up the preponderance of the remaining balance.

Furthermore,Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain Coffea species. In brief, Coffea is said to be native to tropical Africa and Madagascar, the Comoros, Mauritius, and Réunion in the Indian Ocean. Coffee plants are now cultivated in over 70 countries, primarily in the equatorial regions of the Americas, Southeast Asia, Indian subcontinent, and Africa. The two most commonly grown are C. arabica and C. robusta. Once ripe, coffee berries are picked, processed, and dried. Dried coffee seeds are roasted to varying degrees, depending on the desired flavor. Roasted beans are ground and then brewed with near-boiling water to produce the beverage known as coffee.

However, when the end product of these coffee varieties is got, it is mainly consumed in the developed countries in offices as it helps relief the worker of fatigue at work since it is a stimulant.

Also in developing countries, it is same but consumed in homes mostly by the elderly.

Generally, coffee when prepared in office often entices the employees to work longer hours without realizing or getting tired and so milk should always to reduce caffeine content at least and thus boast our energy.

However, it has health effects and should be carefully followed and include;

  • Coffee contains caffeine which may raise blood pressure, as such 400gm of caffeine is the right recommendation as revealed by studies.
  • It may equally cause insomnia, that is too much of it can interfere with ones sleep.
  • Caffeine withdrawal when already an addict, may lead to effects such as headaches since it is a drug.
  • Its consumption may also worsen acid reflux and heart burn symptoms.
  • It can also cause anxiety and panic attacks, and can equally increases the risk of miscarriage especially among women.
    So we should therefore regulate its consumption.
