I am writing this post because i believe by now most persons would bear some questions in mind pertaining the essence of bringing up STEEMCHURCH FARM. This post will enlighten you on the importance of Agriculture in our economy and the nature at large, and why STEEMCHURCH FARM has come with the unction to function, turning things around for good.

Today many countries no longer depend on agriculture as their major source of income, and this has been detrimental in one form or the other to the progressive growth of such nation.
The Nigerian economy being one of the largest in Africa. Since the late 1960s it has been based primarily on the petroleum industry, neglecting agricultural sector. Since the late 1970s the agricultural sector has been in continuing crisis because of the fluctuating world oil market and the country’s rapid population growth, although some persons still engaged in subsistence farming but their product was usually low compared to the population at hand.

The Operation Feed the Nation program of 1976–80 sought to increase local food production and thereby reduce imports. This was the first radical step taken to reduce cost of agricultural products generally and dependency. In the late 1990s the federal government began practice privatization especially in communications, power, and transportation — in order to enhance the quality of service and reduce dependence on the government.

DETRIMENTAL FACTORS TO AGRICULTURAL GROWTH
- Unavailability Of Land: Most time one strong factors that limits large scale farming is the unavailability of farming land, leaving farmers with no choice than to farm in just small pieces of land of just a few plots. These land are still expensive to lend.

-Unmechanized Farming: The use of crude tools also limits farmers from cultivating large, since they have to make use of human labour, their target happens to be very small compared to the unaffordable and unavailable machines. The use of machines i.e mechanized farming enables farmers to cultivate large sine machine labour is applied, but these machines are either not available, unaffordable or no technical -know - how on how to operate.

High Cost Of Purchasing Farm Equipments: Another factor that limits commercial farming is the high cost of purchasing farm equipments such as fertilizers, and other farm tools.

Start-Up-Capital: The capital to start up a commercial farm is always very large, hence Government should make loans available for farmers at low interests and rewards in kinds should also be made available to them so as to encourage them.

IMPORTANCE OF AGRICULTURE TO THE ECONOMY

Food Supply/ Reduces Poverty Rate: A boost in agricultural sector will increase the rate of poor persons in the economy, people who find it difficult to provide their daily bread.

Job Creation: Agriculture provide job opportunities for individuals, progress in the agricultural sector of a country provides job opportunities for job seekers.

Provision of Raw Materials: Agriculture provides raw materials for industries such as timber for furniture industries or paper industries, cocoa for beverage industries, animal skins for leather industries etc.

Government Revenue: Even government get revenue from agricultural products.
Agriculture also make the country less dependent.
