The eggplant is a plant whose fruit is very appreciated in the gastronomy of the countries where it is grown. This provides many benefits to the organism so that its cultivation becomes important for our sustenance. In this opportunity I bring you a post related to the cultivation of eggplant, its diseases and pests, since it is not only about cultivating it, but about taking precautions during its development to obtain a better product.

Eggplant cultivation:

For the cultivation of this plant, it is necessary to consider the following aspects:

Soil: the eggplant needs a moist and deep soil. Being your ideal pH of 6. Before planting it is recommended to fertilize the land to obtain a quality product.

Light: this plant prefers direct light. It does not support cold seasons.

Irrigation: it is necessary to keep the soil moist, especially when its fruits are growing.

Sowing: the seed can be obtained from the nuts. It must be planted in seedbeds and then brought to the ground. At the time of germination, approximately 10 weeks, should be transplanted with a depth of at least 25-30 cm. Keep it moist.

Now, after reviewing some guidelines for the cultivation of eggplant, we will elaborate a description of the different pests and diseases that affect it. Among those that can affect this crop we have:

Diseases:

Mildew: this disease is caused by a fungus. This to be able to spread needs a transporting element like water and proliferates at low temperatures.

Verticillium: this disease causes the wilting of its leaves, specifically on its edges. In some cases, it is possible to see that there are parts of green plants and other withered parts.

Gray rot: with this disease the leaves, stems and fruits are affected. It is possible to detect it, because a gray rot is generated. The pruning or injuries caused by some insects are ideal causal agents for the proliferation of this plant.

Sclerotinia: this disease is characterized by showing a rot accompanied by a white spot. This appears on the stem and can dry the plant.

Alternaria: also known as black mold. It begins with the appearance of brown spots and yellowish coloration on the edges. This is presented first in the lower part of the plant until climbing to the top of it.

Pests:

Red spider: this insect damages the plants causing them a small discoloration in the leaves. If the attack is very advanced, it is possible to notice the formation of spider webs that this spider does. This can affect both the fruits and the plant.

White spider: the bites of this spider generate that the leaves roll up.

White fly: this plague damages yellow coloration on the leaves of plants and thanks to the bites of them can leave traces of molasses that can cause bold.

Aphid: deformed leaves and can also lead to the appearance of bold.

Minador: the miners chop the leaves absolving their nutrients leaving traces in them. A more opaque color path can be seen above or below the leaf.
