#featheredfriday by @keithboone is the place to be with your bird photos!

Rose-Breasted Grosbeak

These birds are common visitors at my feeder during the summer and I always look forward to their return in the springtime. They migrate to South America during the winter.

They are monogamous birds and the bond between a pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks lasts for a lifetime. Their average lifespan is 7 years.

Very pretty birds, excellent photos! It always amazes me to think about little birds like this travelling such huge distances. I hope spring comes soon and you get to see them again! Thank you for posting in Feathered Friday, voted and resteemed. :-)

Thank you so much!

Such cute birds, Melinda. I did not know about their breeding habits. There are not too many monogamous species and this really makes them special. Looking forward to see your lovely photos when these cuties will return from South. 🙂

If I had a garden a bird feeder would be the first thing I would place there. Cool photos!

Having feeder out adds so much life into the back yard!

No doubts! One of my best friends is moving to a house with a backyard, I've already told him that's one of the mandatory things to get :))

Hope you and your camera will be invited to visit him often!

That's a given! ;)

Howdy Melinda! those are some fine shots of those visitors of yours!

Thanks! I love watching the birds that come to the feeder. My favorite parts are when they bring their fledglings and have to teach them how to go to the feeder by themselves. Oftentimes the mom or dad leaves the young one sitting on a tree plant branch and flys back and fourth to show them how it is done. Pretty soon they get the idea and fly down to get a seed themselves. Some of the larger bird babies, like cardinals and blue Jay's, have a very difficult time learning how to land on the feeder. It's funny to watch their efforts.

Oh that is so cool. No wonder people get hooked on watching birds! That is truly interesting and I never thought of being able to see anything like that in connection with a feeder.

Most wildlife have lessons to teach their young! I've watched mama deer teaching their young ones how to 'srartle'. Everyone is calmly eating grass in the backyard and suddenly mama will dash towards the woods and the little ones all stand and look at her like Mama where'd you go? She comes back to them again and eats a few more pieces of grass and then does it again and it takes five or six times of her racing off before they finally get it and learn that they are supposed to follow her when she does that.

And chipmunks... A few of the mama chipmunks teach their young that its safe to eat out of Alli's hand and those families become friends forever. And then there are what Alli calls the chipmunk chickens! Those are the families that are too afraid to come up and get handouts and it's generational. They never do come to eat the handouts that she has for them.

ha! wow ain't that something? Amazing. I'd like to see some of that.

Howdy Melinda!
