A little (feathered)stroll on the beach

As usual, a late #featheredfriday post... still don't know if it's my normal procrastinating behaviour, or plain lack of time! But well, better late than never. And since any excuse to post wildlife photos is good, here's another one for the collection, with a common portuguese inhabitant.

Little egrets are fairly common, and thye can normally be found, isolated or in small groups, hunting in shallow waters. Although, i'm not used to see them at the beach! Maybe like me, she was in a beach mood... or just craving for saltwater critters!

They are easy to identify; it's a medium sized egrett, and the only one with black legs and yellow feet; it's a huge contrast, and easily observed!

In the breeding season, they are even more beautiful, since two big feathers hang loosely from the head, part of the nuptial display. Here, just the normal summer plummage.

This was the only egret enjoying the beach in this morning, but she wasn't alone; for all the birders/curious out there... can you identify the other two species? 😉
