#112: Henry Drake : meets BOB

When henry had received his new ride he’d been on top of the eastern high rise bridge over the eastern ship channel on the

 Atchafalaya Basin Bridge .

He’d come from the west so there was no need going back. There were flatlands and plains to the west as far as New Mexico. Nothing but water now he imagined. Henry headed north and east toward the hills. ...perhaps he’d find some land that way.

One evening while Henry was enjoying his before-bedtime smoke on the deck he heard a voice.

“What’ll you take for one of those cigars’? A voice said from the distance.

Henry had been sitting at the table on the ‘deck’ smoking a cigar. Gotta love that SSmoke...it can make a deck, complete with table and chairs, when you want one...when you don’t...it’s gone. Sometimes he just felt a need to get outside.

Henry had noticed the shanty boat coming closer quite a while ago. He’d wondered how close it would come to a ‘sea monster’. Apparently ...pretty close.

“I haven’t had a cigar in a coon’s age” the man in the boat said. “I’ve been smelling yours for quite a while. Finally I couldn’t resist any longer. I had to ask.”

“I’ve got plenty” Henry told him. “You’re welcome to one. You want to come aboard, Sit, Smoke and visit. I bet I can round up some beer too.”

“You have beer?” The man said “I must have died and gone to heaven. I’d take it kindly. Thank you”.

The man’s boat silently pulled up along Fluffy. Henry didn’t hear any engine sounds.

“Alrighty then.” Henry said “ Here comes the gangplank.”

Henry directed one of Fluffy’s tentacles to stretch out to the boat. It had modified itself so that it could be walked on easily.

“Ain’t THAT nifty.” The man in the shanty boat said.
He didn’t hesitate a bit. Soon enough he was shaking Henry’s hand.

“Glad to meet you” he said “I’m Bob...and that there’s my boat...it’s name is B.O.B. too.”

“Good to meet you too.” Henry replied “My name is Henry...this is the harvester...er...I guess you could call it a ship, ‘Fluffy’. Have a seat won’t you. ”

Bob raised an eyebrow at that, but took the offered seat at the small table on the deck.

“Fluffy?” He said cautiously.

“Yeah...” Henry admitted “Kind of embarrassing. It came pre-named.”

“Sounds like something a five year old old girl would name it.” Bob said.

“Actually I think you might be right.” Henry replied. A large stein of beer floated out of the hatch and set itself on the table.”Either that or an acronym?”

‘Frickin Lovely Upscale Fearful Ferocious Yaffle! “ Bob said reverently as he watched the floating beer Stein sit itself in front of him on the table Bob looked at it like he’d look at a snake.

“YES!” Henry said “That might be It!”
