The Sun

Mountain Sun.png

The sun didn’t always travel across the sky and disappear where our world ends. The sun used to sit on top of that far mountain. Back when there were masters and workers.
Night never came and the people stayed in caves on the hillsides to hide from the day. The masters were twice as tall as a worker and they forced the workers to dig tunnels with large rooms for their wives and riches.
One master stood taller than the rest and was also the most brutal. He required his workers to run ahead of him and light the rooms before he entered. If the master entered an area with no light, then the master would pull the head off of the worker that failed him, place it in a shelf carved into the rock at the entrance of the cave, then drag the body around by the ankle until it rotted enough to pull away from the hip, This would motivate the workers to anticipate the master’s desired path.
One day a new master arrived from a place that had no light. Taller than the largest tree, he couldn’t fit in even the largest of the caves but he reached his long arms in and pulled out workers, dropping them to the ground one by one until he got hold of a master which he held in his fist and ate like a carrot freshly pulled from the ground. Bones crunched loudly as he dropped the bottom half of the masters and moved to the next cave. He continued to reach into caves, dropping the workers and eating the masters until he pulled out the largest of the masters. This one was too big to bite the top off, but this master was what he had been looking for. He took him to the top of the far mountain, lashed him to the sun, and forced him to drag the sun across the sky to light his land when he wakes, and take it away to make the night when it is time for him to sleep.
