Paul sat in the corner of the bar and ordered a drink. He usually went to the bar opposite his office straight after work, before taking the train home. He ordered his usual and glanced at his phone. He had hoped that Jenny would call or send a message, but nothing.

They had a big fight the previous evening and she stormed out of the apartment. He had hoped that she would come back after cooling down, but when he woke up this morning she was still not in. She probably slept over at her friend Julia's house like she always does when they had a fight.

He finished his drink and ordered another. He started to text Jenny, but decided against it and dialed her number. Her phone was switched off, and he put down his phone. He drank his beer in silence and tried to figure out what he was going to do. He was tired of all the fighting. She was always being unreasonable, and he had enough. Five years of begging and giving in was enough, and it was time to get out.

He didn't feel like going home, and phoned his friend Jerry to invite him for a drink. Unfortunately he was already at home, and asked for a rain-check.

Peter sighed. He finished his drink and packed up his stuff. He was just about to walk out the door when a woman came in. She looked so familiar, he couldn't put his finger on it. She took a seat in the corner where he previously sat and ordered a drink.

He turned around and knew he wouldn't be able to sleep if he didn't find out who she was. He ordered another drink and stared at her, while trying to remember where he knew her from.  She must have felt that he was staring at her, and looked up to meet his eyes.

They looked straight at each other, and she smiled at him while lifting up her glass to make a toast. He felt embarrassed but got up and moved closer.

"Can I buy you a drink?"

"I thought you would never ask.."

They sat next to each other, but they didn't talk. When Paul built up enough courage, he asked her:

"Do we know each other?"

She laughed. "You don't remember me do you?"

Paul looked embarrassed but shook his head. He had tried over and over to remember where he met her, but nothing came up. She was so familiar to him, yet he had absolutely no clue who she was.
