MONDAY WASHDAY BLUES - A Gobbler Brothers’ Tale

The Gobbler Brothers learn quickly that life on the farm isn’t all about grazing, mocking the chickens, or gossiping on their new perch. No. They have to pull their weight along with everyone else.

“Boys,”she said.

Honey threw this rather casually over her shoulder. The two brothers were still in the screened-in porch, perching on the handle bars of her once gleaming Motobecane.

“Gobble, Gobble.”

“Gobble.”

By now Honey understood turkey-talk.

She opened the screen door. They followed her outside.

“Chores, Brother,” said the eldest.

“Yup,” said the younger.

They of course gobbled this.

She was already there. They waddled as fast as they could to catch up.

“Ready?” she asked.

“And how,” said the eldest.

“Yup,” said the younger.

(Honey had yet to name them. She was stumped after her husband’s little joke, as told in "Honey the (Not) Farmer's Wife.")

The eldest reached his beak into her laundry basket, and pulled out a small cloth item.

“Drawers,” said the younger. He took them from his brother’s beak, and trotted over to Honey’s spot at the clothes line.

“Thank you,” she said. She took his offering, and pinned it on the line.

“Whitey-Tighties,” said the eldest.

“Yup,” said the younger.

They snickered (in the only way turkeys can).

“I heard that. Quit kibitzing and get busy,” said Honey.

“Yes, Ma'am,” said the eldest.

“Right-Oh,” said the youngest.

By now the pair had this down to an assembly line:

The eldest lifted the garment out of the basket. (Being the foreman isn't as easy as it looks, you know.)

Then, as it slid off the “foreman’s” beak, the younger hooked it on his own. Then trotted down the clothes line.

They were efficient.

Good in fact. Honey never had to wait before another item was handed-- uh, beaked over.

The Gobbler Brothers sure were proud to be on Honey’s team.

That ends (for now anyway) the Gobbler Brothers’ series. More later. Maybe about the time Honey’s family came down South. And met her "boys." Meanwhile, a pair of irascible drifters have just turned up at the farm next door. Stay tuned.
