Life cheat.

in #fiction6 years ago

It's almost midnight. The laboratory is still awake - CPU cooling fans are still spinning, lights are still on, holograms are still spinning, showing the numbers no one are even looking at. Someone in a dark coat is at the only exit of the room, holding a small test tube in his hand. No one could see his eyes, but everyone knows that his mind is spinning fast - faster than the CPU cooling fans - he has the aura no other one has. The aura of knowledge, the aura of determination, and a very special aura of caring and love.

A very special being.

He just came back from the guest room - the place he greets and treats his patients. People know that he can do everything. He can almost mind-read anyone. Whenever someone has an issue, he will almost be the first one that comes to their mind. The best part? He never rejects a patient. Not even one. And, no one left complains about his treatments. Again, not even one.

"So, what's your problem?"

"I wish that I can be happier than what I am now."

"You don't think you are happy enough?"

A teenage just approached this man a few moments ago. Like hundreds of others, this teenage came to seek simple help for his life, attempting to cheat the issues everyone would face - sadness, frustration, anger, depression, restlessness, everything else.

"Cheating is bad. I told everyone about that."

"But no one said that it is bad apart from you."

He smiled, stood up and walked to a shelf nearby. There are a few boxes on it, colourful and attractive. The teenager could not resist but keep on looking at them, thinking what would be inside one of them. The man then picked a red metal box and brought it to the table.

He opened it, and there were various colourful doughnuts in it.

"Here, take one."

The teenager looked at the doughnuts, curiously looking at the man. The man gave another convincing smile. He then took one, "thanks", he added on.

"Let me just ask you one more time, you want your life to be as happy as the colours you see here?"

"I don't see why not."

"Alright then."

The teenager took his first bite. It was mind-blowing. His eyes saw an ever-growing rainbow, happiness immediately filled his mind and heart. The sky never felt so blue, and his heart was never so bright and clear. He was overwhelmed and took the second bite.

"There's no going back now."

Faint voices said in his ears, his world lost balance and started to spin. In a dizzy sight, he saw everything that was meaningful to him, everything that once made him happy. Everything flashed in a moment. He felt more dizziness, with puzzledness in his mind making his universe spin even faster. He lost control of his body, and his hand kept on sending pieces of doughnuts into his mouth.

Soon, in a distorted sight full of colours, he felt something strange - liquids are oozing out from his skull, flowing from his nose and ears. Colourful tears are flying everywhere. Happiness slowly ate him over. Over and over.

In the very end, he ate the entire doughnut. The man then watched the teenager walking out of the room, continuing his life like nothing else happened.

"When you have nothing else to compare, you won't feel bad."

The man looked into the test tube, observing the colourful fluid.

"When you don't know what is bad, you won't complain."

"That's how you cheat life..."

He approached a huge machine and entered a passcode. More numbers floated on the hologram and a virtual skull appeared before him. Slowly, he poured the colourful fluid into the skull built out of blue laser lines. More and more numbers poured on the screen, LEDs are flashing, and the fans spun a little faster.

Looking into the freezing device, a silhouette could be seen. A once-living human, a definition for the man's world, a heart-breaking incident, a forbidden love.

"...and you're helping me to cheat mine, too."

Calculations are complete, "574 samples collected, 43 more required.", reported the computer. Holograms updated the data shown, numbers tweaked, and graphs are redrawn. The man checked the parameters and looked back at the frozen silhouette.

Giving one last stare for the day, the life cheater left the room.

I haven't wrote fiction for a very long time...suddenly feel like writing something for today. Hope that it isn't too bad :) I sometimes have strange stories popping up in my mind...yea. Don't ask me why. Probably this is not the strangest one yet, I might have other stuff in the future, who knows. My brain is a messed up universe.

P/s: There's a small reference in the story. If you get it, it is 1000 Doge or equivalent in SBD.
Hint: It's from a series of songs.
