Calling All Authors Of High Quality Fiction

in #fiction7 years ago (edited)
Steemit is a wonderful platform for authors hoping to build an audience. It’s a microcosm of the broader world community, but with all posts sharable to the public and housed permanently on the blockchain, it also provides a perfect vehicle for reaching the masses.

SETTING THE BAR

The nature of Steemit is de-regulated and open to all. This means anyone can post anything, regardless of quality. It’s a beautiful concept and I applaud it. What about the serious writers, though? The ones churning out valuable content and setting the bar for excellence? What if we find a way to reward their contribution to this community and offer them the option of even more exposure through a public digital library?

The Steemhouse Fiction Trail is a curation project started in the Fiction Workshop at the Minnowsupport Discord channel. We are fortunate to have professional authors and editors in that group, people who see a tremendous opportunity for Steemit to impact mainstream publishing. This curation project is the first step toward a much bigger goal. We have already envisioned an independent publishing imprint powered entirely by crypto. This is the time to build momentum, pique interest, and find sponsors willing to get on board the project. Eventually The SFT will generate its own voting strength and be able to offer substantial reward through a simple upvote. For the immediate future, we will appeal to potential investors about helping us offer SBD incentives for curation. This will take time to develop, but we’re starting now.

I’m a moderator at the PALnet @minnowsupport group, and also a “mini-mod” at the Fiction Workshop. The sense of community there is profound. We’re a close-knit group, but also a very welcoming group in the Workshop. We laugh and joke and kick up our heels, but the overall atmosphere is very workmanlike and productive. No promotion of posts is allowed in the Workshop, and spam links get deleted quickly. But if you’re looking for serious feedback about your fiction, it’s the place to be. Some of our mini-mods in that group have decades of experience as professional book critics and editors, along with published novels available at major booksellers. Our workshop isn’t the featherweight corner. If you tell your story instead of show it, we will tell you. If you need to practice Deep POV, we will tell you. If you’re head-hopping, we will tell you. If your grammar and syntax needs so much work that it interferes with your voice, we will tell you that, too. Find us at the Fiction Workshop HERE.

The SFT emerged directly from the Fiction Workshop. The Workshop and the SFT Library are my dedicated projects as PALnet moderator. We are a minnow group in the Fiction Workshop because we’re new to Steemit, not because we’re new to publishing. The MSP Discord channel has several honorary whale members, as well as dolphins and witnesses. So I encourage you—if you’re serious about your fiction, pay us a visit. The only people not welcome are bullies. 😊

You say you are a mini-moderator in the Fiction Workshop. Yet, there is nothing mini about your editing abilities @rhondak! The fiction workshop has done wonders to improve my writing style, and the community there is amazing. It has rejuvenated my love for social media. I am super excited to be a very minor part in all that goes on in the Fiction Workshop. Go SFT! Let's Build Worlds!!

@nexusfyre, here lately I've been so busy with the website and all this related stuff that I haven't gotten to talk to you much. Please know you are an integral part of the Fiction Workshop and bring soooo much good energy and wisdom to it. When I glance in and see you there talking to people, I'm always reassured that everyone is in good hands. :-)

An awesome initiative! I'm excited to see where this leads to. Imagine all the undiscovered gems just waiting to be polished for the world to see. Ah, the possibilities!

I know! It's so exciting. :-)

This is a terrific idea. I think the concept of sort of sub-communities existing on Steemit where you can share your work, get feedback and engage with similar people has a huge amount of potential.

I look forward to seeing how the SFT library progresses.

Thank you. I agree that the subcommunities may be key to the ultimate success of the platform, especially for professional users. :-)

@maite hello spanish ☺️

Hello! I don't speak Spanish, but it's so very nice to meet you. :-)

I have been waiting for something like this! And thank you, @naquoya for resteeming for more visibility!

I see you sneaking into the group even as I type this. Great to have you! :-)

We said! It's very exciting to be a part of this project and the Fiction Workshop in general. Can't wait to see where this leads!

@jrhughes, like I just told nexusfyre--you're a cornerstone of the group and the Workshop wouldn't be the same without you. :-)

Resteeming in order to spread the word and get folks into posting more fiction pieces! Thank you.

Thank you! Yes--you hit the nail on the head. We want people to post more fiction, great fiction, and get recognized for it. :-)

Trying to get some writers to join the platform--stay tuned!

Appreciate this!

I've always wanted to step my fiction game up, so thanks for pushing forward.

Much ❤
@Tayken

Omigosh that gif is too cute. :-)

I think this is a wonderful development, and I'm looking forward to where will lead in the future, for Steemit, and for authors. Thanks for putting this together.

I resteemed this to help spread the word.

Thank you! See you in the workshop. :-)
