Under a dying tree, on an abandoned swing beside the old river, a lone figure sat and watched, legs crossed.

Like a forgotten piece of art she sat still, her silhouette complemented by the mild colours of the breaking dawn.

Anyone who saw her, sitting as she was, watching the lazy movement of the waves as they disappeared along the river bank.. anyone who saw her so, would think she was as tender and graceful, as all of those nature's many faces which surrounded her.

But even then, as she sat, her features so serene, a thousand conflicts raged still.. in the young, yet timeless heart of Annabelle...

Girl of the Woods (II)...

Annabelle was lost in thought...

It had been eighty long years since the world she loved and adored had come to an abrupt end. Annabelle however, hadn't aged a day. She still looked as young and innocent as she had, all those years ago.

She found that it hurt her deeply to think of that part of her seemingly endless past. But she also found, that though she tried, she couldn't help but reminisce, at least once every few months, about those distant happy times.

That was why she had first come here, to this quiet place. It reminded her of that which she briefly had, that which she lost. A family who she had thought she loved, and who loved her in return. A dream, a nightmare.

She remembered it clearly.. all those years back when she had walked away from 'he who must not be named'. She had told herself that evening that he had lied, that her parents did love her, that they wouldn't let her live such a lie without good reason.

Then she had gotten to the big house only to have her heart shattered with the truth, the terrible truth.

They had told her everything, she had made sure they did. And how the truth had hurt.

Annabelle had listened quietly, absorbing every bit of pain. She had listened to her parents confess they weren't really her parents, but that they loved her. She had listened to them tell how they had found her, locked in a coffin, in some sort of hibernation. And how they had revived her. With blood..

Alas the special wine, her family's bond, their ritual.. well, it wasn't really theirs, it was hers. And there wasn't no secret recipe, no hidden brewery. No, it was blood, human blood.. and they never really drank the same liquid as she did. It was just her, only her.

Somehow they had managed, by a chemical/blood mixture, to keep her hunger and thirst at minimum, keeping her away from the rest of the world. And they had studied her, like some animal.

Anna had sat down and listened. She had listened to it all.. of their lies of love.. just before she had killed them, the both of them. She could still feel the satisfaction the taste of their blood had brought her. She could still feel it after all these years...

But tonight, as Anna sat down on the abandoned swing beneath that old dying tree, as she sat quietly and watched time slowly pass by...

One particular conflict stood out among the thousand raging in her heart...

For just the night before, Annabelle had found out by pure chance, that a second site existed...

That she had a brother...

And now she must go find 'he who must not be named', she needed to find Sam. For only he could point her in the right direction. No matter the pain of old wounds...

As the first sight of the rising sun appeared in the distance, Annabelle closed her eyes. Behind her closed eyelids, she could see the old house standing in the middle of that clearing in those haunted woods.

And for the first time in a long long time, Annabelle aged a little...

THE END

Written as a result of @mosunomotunde's request for a sequel.

I must admit this story pleases and saddens me at the same time. I just may go ahead though, for who knows? Sam may be dead already, and Annabelle though immortal, does need a little guidance...

You know what they say, blood does taste thicker... than even the best wine.
