Are you financially ready when you retire? You might be in your 20's, 30's, or even in your 40's and you're thinking to yourself “I have time. That’s a long.....long ways from now. I don’t need to worry about that.”

I’m not a financial adviser and what I’m sharing is not professional financial advise. These are some things that I’ve learned over the years and most recently that I find very beneficial to my financial health.

The thing is you need to do something about it now, because your Golden years will come in a blink of an eye and will you be ready for it?

I know so many people who are retired now or at the age where they could retire, but they are not financially ready. Unfortunately that means that they have to continually work just to sustain their daily living. Some senior citizens who were retired found themselves in a financial predicament where they had to go back to work. They realized that their choices were limited. They noticed that even though they had Social Security and what little they saved, it wasn’t enough to sustain their daily expenses like food, electric, paying for all types of insurance plans they had, their medications, and etc.....the list goes on. So most of these people who had these incredible jobs prior to retiring, who did not prepare themselves for their retirement years, are now struggling just to get by.

So what can we learn from their experience?

One benefit to starting young is.......drum roll please........TIME! Time is a huge factor and it is one of our greatest assets when YOU start to invest at a young age.

One of my favorite examples was from the Personal Finance Expert, Suze Orman. You have person “A”, who is 25 years old. They invest $100 in a Roth IRA monthly, which earns a 12% return annually.

Then you have person “B” who is 35 years old. They invest in the same Roth IRA every month with the same 12% annual return.

There is a difference of 10 years between both people, but those 10 years make huge difference in what he or she will have in 30 years to 40 years, respectively.

When person “B” retires at age 65 their investment will be worth around $300,000.00. That’s a nice chunk a change.

Now....when person “A” retires at the age of 65 their investment will be worth over $1 million! What?!?!? YES! $1,000,000.00!!! That is a $700,000.00 difference. Of course not all investments will have a 12% rate of return. Investments are risky and there are several factors that can effect the rate of return.

Let’s use the same example, but instead of 12% let’s go with 8%. The 25 year old would have around $335,000.00 at age 65 and the 35 year old would have $146,000.00 at age 65. That is a difference of $189,00.00!

As you we can see the more you invest, the greater the gap between both people.

Let's do one more example. This time person "A" (25 year old) and person "B" (35 year old) invests $450 a month with a 10% rate of return consistently till they each reach the age of 65. Person "B" would have $977, 000.00 and person "A" would have $2,600,000.00. WOW! That is a difference of $1,623,00.00!

Roth IRA's are just some examples of preparing for your retirement years. There are many different options out there. I was just talking to someone about this today, who’s in their 30’s, and they weren’t even thinking about the idea of preparing for retirement now. When I showed them the example of the 25 and 35 year old, they were stunned. Needless to say they started to look at all investment opportunities. I hope that they genuinely follow through with their plan and if I’ve encouraged at least one person with this post to start thinking about their retirement then I will be filled with utter glee. I wish you all the best ❤️ Here’s to a living a life full of positive and financial abundance 🙌
