The image that popped out when I read your painting was Malinda being one of those people that doesn't see themselves as doing any wrong. They are quick to blame others and never look at their own mistakes, if in fact, they are mistakes and not deliberately done. Malinda seems to be conscious of her actions so I go with she does this on purpose.
Benjamin was wrapped up in her pinky. He may not have listened to anything that went against his belief of Malinda's perfection. I've done that, doh. 8-)
