The fact that the Doc is smoking over the operating table made me enjoy the piece from the beginning. I think about a movie in the Little Shop of Horrors where I would see Johnny Depp in the role of Dr. Richards. The end is surreal and fun, plus bizarre and all the other adjectives that @agmoore wrote .. pulp beyond.

LOL. Like to have a good opening line to hopefully hook the reader. Also, the theme of a moral dilemma with a twist by adding some more back story to the character.
Although he was right in his arguement with the professor he went about it the wrong way. He ended up a broken man with no business practicing medicine. However, it took one final meeting with the professor before he could admit it to himself. He doesn't hurt him in the end. Instead he does the best he can do by turning him over to someone else.
