"Minefield" In A Flowerbed

in #finland6 years ago (edited)

Helmi the cat is likes to relieve herself in our newest flowerbed because the soil is soft and effortless to dig. The recently planted peonies in it have not been thriving under this regime, so my mother in law came up with the idea to put up a fence around it using sticks made out of dead branches cut off from a berry bush. I developed the idea further and created a kind of minefield out of the sticks by not making a fence but inserting them into the soil so densely as to make it impossible for the cat to sit in the flowerbed. Mission accomplished. Photographic proof below.

We just build a sandbox in our yard and filled it with sand. Guess what happened after our 4 cats saw that...

I wish I could give you a laughing upvote. :D

I can imagine...

Cats are smart animals and your minefield won't work. Good effort but that soft soil is too tempting.

I hope it will. And it if doesn't we ill increase the number of sticks. We will dig another one for her only close to the flowerbed and fill it with the softest soil imaginable. :)

Nice idea.. But cat would surely become upset...she would understand what is happening...be careful..

She can always come and do it in her box indoors. We are going to dig another smaller one for her.

That is cool...

Haha ... or the comfort of the cat or the growth of the peonies ... would it be that Murphy's law was doing its thing?

The peonies cannot uproot themselves and go grow someplace else. But the cat can choose another place. And hopefully will choose another place that we will dig for her. :D

Of course. But how do you say that to the cat? ... the dogs understand more ... Good luck!

I think she will notice the softness of the soil.

She? ... I did not realize she was a lady. You will surely get an equal place for her.

Helmi is female.

Happy Sunday for Helmi!😅

Hello markku., Sorry to discourage you but I do not think it will work as they are very agile and will easily evade. I think the solution would be to put a sandbox for him or to make one of these just for him. You already know the saying that if you can not with the enemy unetele: D hahaha

What a mischievous Helmmi, will not it be that he goes to the flowers to mark his territory?

Could be part of it. Or it could be that she just wants to get the job done.

Wow Good idea, now where the cat can relieve itself. You must be aware of that. because when changing the site is able to make it more bristle home

She has a cat box in the house. She does not run around outdoors in the winter. We have also dug another hole for her and filled it with the same soil as the flower bed.

I was just about tho suggest this method. Cats own hole. How has that worked?

Helmi hasn't used the flower bed since I put the sticks in it. We haven't checked the new hole.

I hope it works but keep your hopes low, the cats are really smart little fellows, If I were you, I could also use some booby traps.

There's a new small hole in the lawn next to this one with that same soil in it and no plants. It will be much more convenient to her to use that one instead.
