It is fun, and a tasty treat!! Heading up to the cabin with my Nephew next week
for some pickerel, they a bit bigger and I think tastier....

I haven't had enough pickerel to judge taste but everything tastes good when it comes out of clean water. I know they're bonier. Instead of calling them pickerel, aren't we supposed to call them walleye now?

Yes, your right, they really are walleye, but most people I know still call them pickerel, don't know why, maybe change is difficult for most people.
No bones, if you fillet them proper, they are larger then perch, so easier to fillet. Pike are the tricky ones to fillet.
Walleye, (pickerel) have a lot of flesh on their cheek, it melts in your mouth, best part of the fish.

I remember when they changed the name and all I can remember is it was over a decade ago. We had called them pickerel forever. So the important part, have them for breakfast. Dip them in dry Aunt Jemima pancake batter and fry them in bacon fat!

Pickerel vs Walleye

Now your making me hungry......
Ok, I'll try that, sounds good.

In Cornwall (Ontario) restaurants, you can sometimes get perch and pickerel rolls. Those are fried fillets in a hotdog bun with tartar sauce on them. Where the St. Lawrence widens, it's called Lake St. Francis and it's a great pickerel area. Ya, ya, walleye. LOL

haha....true tho, a lot of restaurants still say pickerel on the menu....
The river I am on is full of them, and the odd pike, in 12 years I have only
seen 4 boats on the river.

That's not bad. (Shhh... Don't talk about the fish too loudly or you'll have company there.)
