Fishing South Australia

Welcome to Wynn Vale Dam which is in the city of Tea Tree Gully. One of the very few accessible fresh water fishing lakes in north Adelaide.

There is no public access to most freshwater lakes around Adelaide as they have been fenced off by SA Water. this is one of the few that is accessible for fishing.

The dam is just under a kilometer in circumference and has one major island in the top corner and being one of the main features in the lake can be a good place to pick up a fish or two.

The fishing here can be very hit and miss as there is a very low density of fish - due to previous black-water events caused by a local business which has killed a majority of the stock in the past, still it is said to hold a few big ones so it's always worth a dabble:-

It's a great place to get away and walk around the dam enjoying the oasis of wildlife.

In the few hours we managed to get on the bank, one fish was lost and i landed one little catfish.

The fish was caught on an inch cube of cheese fished halfway to the island.

Sort:

Nice Eeltail catfish (Tandanus) mate. Not quite a 10 pounder, but a nice fish nonetheless ;)

Good eating apparently.

Gotta admit, I was surprised that public access to lakes has been largely prohibited.

i think i may have beaten your smallest fish,

No laughing now....

or are my hands the size of dustbin lids....and its a couple of pounds?

Haha, nice little goby mate.

They were talking about opening up Happy Valley Reservoir; so our grandchildren maybe have that to look forward to.

I heard the same thing, but there will be no fishing allowed, it will only be as a walk around the water like hope valley and the others that are not completely enclosed like Warren Reservoir.

My uncle used to break in there and go camping/fishing.
