If you don’t take your health seriously, you are free to ignore this post!

Let’s dive into the discussion straight up. Chances are, most of us sit all day long at our desks working. We may not need anybody to tell us or read any fear-mongering blog post about how bad it is to sit for a long time. Most times, I feel sluggish and tight when I sit at a desk all day. Even though there are so many debates about it, we have to be conscious of the more profound impact seated at a desk for so long can have on our health.

But hey! Should we quit this job of writing? Of course, no! Well, we can maintain our lives and career when we combat those adverse effects of sitting down working for a long time.

But I have discovered some vital strategies that I have been using for some time now to improve my work environment even when I have some common challenges of working at a desk job. Also, working behind my desk, I will share with you a simple routine I have been doing that has been working correctly for me. When you make an effort to do them, they will make a significant impact on your long-term health and even how you feel. At your desk and for just a few minutes a day, these exercises won’t take much time, and they are simple routines.

The biggest challenges for some of us working at a desk

Okay, let’s not get into the potential (controversial) health consequences.

You will see that when you sit all day in front of a desk, you can put your body into a less-than-ideal position. From wrist issues to carpal tunnel, neck problems, tight hip flexors, back pain, and tight shoulder, this sitting position can cause all these over time. And we are putting a lot of strain on our body because typically, your body will feel stiff when you get off of a 3-hour plane ride, and we are here using 8+ hours every day to do this sitting.

Okay, okay, you’re busy and working all day! But the question is; in your already packed schedule and for any exercise you manage to squeeze into your time, do you stretch at least an hour a day? Do you? Anyone?
Well, let me break it to you that you really don’t have to do that! Good news, isn’t it?

There are strategies you can imbibe to optimize your work environment. And you can make a significant difference through a few simple improvements to your environment. As you work at a desk all day and to avoid the stress place on your body, you may not necessarily have to quit your day job.

I have put some of these into my daily routine, and it has magically improved the way I work and also my health. Some of them are:

• When you can, do a quick exercise
• Involve your family and friends (even coworkers)
• Start using work blocks
• Avoid static position for too long

I will go through all of these points in my next post. Also, I will talk about some desk stretches that will make for better strength and mobility. Until then, you can add in the comment some of the ways you manage yourself and your health while sitting all day at a desk. Thank you!

I agree, stretching is important, I try to do it in the evenings, before I go to bed.
