My entry for the 🌸 FLOWER POWER PHOTO CONTEST BY FLAMINGIRL 🌸 - Day 4
Narcissus
It is a of predominantly spring genius. Here in Ukraine Narcissus are very popular. It is grown in every garden, and sold on every small street markets. Yellow and white, and it is an undeniable sign of spring.
The species are native to southern Europe, especially for the Mediterranean. That's where this sublime beauty was captured. It stands on the edge of the rock overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and a small town Atrani on the shore. Look at it - isn't it a best illustration to the famous ancient Greek legend?
But back to Ukraine. Although daffodils feel good in our gardens, I don't remember them growing in the meadows or forests. Except one place - one of the most beautiful corners of Ukraine - Valley of daffodils in Transcarpathia, Western Ukraine. Once a year she turns into a real blooming miracle.
Worth mentioning is that the species Narcissus poeticus is high-altitude dweller. So how did it get to the valley that is only 200 m above sea level? Scientists say these flowers descended from the mountains during the Ice Age. When the ice melted plants had enough of water to survive. And their family left in Alps and in the Balkans.
