Ludwig the Bloodsucker: North American Folklore

in #folklore5 years ago

Ludwig the Bloodsucker was an urban legend popular in New York around the mid to late 1800s. Although tales of this monster originated in the Bowery district of New York City centuries ago, tales are still told of him today.

Accounts vary, but most describe Ludwig as a mix between a leprechaun and a vampire. He is marked by an extreme hairiness, with hair emerging from ears and nostrils and a wild tuft of bristly black hair upon his head. As well as being wildly hairy, he also has the regular vampire feature of fangs. Unlike vampires, his skin is not pale, but swarthy. He is very short and stout.

Ludwig the Bloodsucker preys upon the inebriated, so it's best to watch your intake should you be imbibing in the Bowery. Ludwig was said to drain the blood from his victims, enjoying the buzz he would get from the alcohol content in their blood. He has a particular taste for the blood of those involved in barroom brawls.

I don't know about anyone else, but when i heard about Ludwig the Bloodsucker for the first time, I immediately envisioned the nefarious leprechaun from those ridiculous 90s horror movies:

This monster is hilarious. A hairy vampire leprechaun who preys on drunk people. Yaaaaassss. Amazing. Totally reminds me of the leprechaun movies as well. The only one of those movies I liked was the one in Vegas where he rhymed every time he spoke. "There once was a man from madrass, who's balls were made of fine brass, and in stormy weather, they both clang together, and sparks blew out of his ass" Iol I dont know why I still remember that
