My favorite emergency food: Onishi Foods Alpha Rice / 尾西食品のアルファ米

Onishi Foods' plain alpha rice or mixed rice is ready within 15-20 minutes after pouring hot water. It takes 60 minutes but cold water can be used too. The alpha rice is not like conventional puffy dried rice soaked in water but it has sticky mochi like texture that is quite similar to rice cooked in regular way and taste good.

尾西食品のアルファ米パックは大好きな非常食のひとつです。お湯で15-20分、水でも1時間ほど待つとおいしいご飯ができあがります。いわゆる乾燥ご飯を水で戻した感じではなくてきちんともっちりしたご飯になります。

I got to know this product after 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake. A neighbor supermarket Kyoto Meijiya was introducing it as an emergency food. Since then I became a big fan of Onishi Foods’ Alpha rice pack. My mother likes it too. She sent me some from her stock for the hard time before/after delivery. I ate it after a while when our flight had 2.5h delay and arrived at home almost at midnight. Ya it's tasty :)

東日本大震災のあとに、京都の明治屋で「非常食に」と並んでいたのを見かけて、買って食べてみたらおいしくてびっくりして以来この製品の大ファンです。実家の母も気に入っていて、産前産後の忙しい時にとストックから送ってくれて、先日フライトが2.5時間遅れて深夜に帰宅して久しぶりに食べました。おいしいです。

As I read somewhere it’s ideal for hiking and camping, I will try one on train next week when I travel to southern Germany on train, which takes 7 hours. Warm rice on train … yum yum :)

どこかでハイキングやキャンプにもおすすめと書いてあったようにも思います。・・・と書いて来週南ドイツに行くのでお弁当に持っていってみようと思いました。車内であたたかいご飯、うーん、幸せそう。
