An easy recipe of an Algerian food !!

in #food5 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone

Food. One of the morst interesting subjects in our daily life. food is not just eating and fulling your stomach, food for me is a savour and a tast, a human evolution and a history telling. because nothing came from and for nothing, food evoluated with the human and we generally don't talk about it.

today, the Algerian food is known in the europe for it's couscous but the algerian food is one of the richest cuisine in the world. Being derived from land and marine production, it is considered as a Mediterranean and North African cuisine based on Berber cuisine. But also the history of algerian colonisation offers a mix of culture so that makes a variety of dishes depending on the region and the season, which gives a very diversified culinary palette.

sadly, in the world people don't know much about Algeria. consequently, they don't know it's food. Thats why i realised that my responsability is to represent it and make it popular in this platform by giving you sometimes a little presentation of a dish and the recipe to try it at home.

so let's begin with a good dessert : the Tamina

easy to cook, tamina is a traditional dessert which can cooked in 10 mins. we usually cook tamina in any happy events, but the most important to know is that tamina is especially consumed after a childbirth as food for the mother, for the nourishing side.

what is it ?

tamina is simply a dessert with a pasty texture, consisting of grilled semolina, honey and melted butter.

how you cook it ?

INGREDIENTS :
  • 1 cup of ground medium semolina
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of natural set honey

for the decorations:

  • ground cinnamon
  • silver dragees

DIRECTIONS :

  1. In a saucepan heat the semolina over a medium-high heat. Grill, slowly brown medium-quality semolina. Stir with a wooden spoon until it turns a nice golden color. Pour into a bowl & set aside.
  2. Over low heat always, melt the butter and the honey in the empty pan you used to toast the semolina.
  3. Pour the semolina back into the pan & mix well to combine it with the butter & honey.
  4. Pour the semolina mixture out onto a small dinner plate or side plate & decorate with the cinnamon, dragees & any additional items you like.
  5. the dessert is ready now, you can savour it now with tea or a white coffee.
  6. HAVE A GOOD MEAL !!

i invite you yo try it and give me your opinions :D

The tamina looked very tasty and fascinating to learn it is considered nourishing after a mother has given birth. Thank you sharing!

Silver dragees? Are those things edible? Ingredients sounds like they would be tasty :)

Of course they are edible, dragees are generally almonds coated with colored sugar. Or just a piece of sugar also coated with a specific coulour. And yes it's really tasty :D

I would sure like to have more skills for cooking than those I actually have. I always make a big mess and the result is usually not that good. :-P

PS: I've found your post because @aggamun featured you in his entry for the Pay It Forward Contest

Haha i do a big mess in the kitchen too. I'm not a chef but the result ( i don't know how) is usually tasty and good 😂. Maybe it's a matter of luck lol
