Name Pistachio is derived from middle english pistace while in persian language it is called "Pesteh". It is also found in midlle east where it grows in desert. The reason that it can found in desert and hilly areas is because of its ability to survive in the long temperature range from -100C to 480C.

Seed of this plant is used as a dry fruit. It is costly because it takes eight to 10 years when it starts to produce significant amount of seeds. Pistachio is also grown in U.S.A as some states of U.S.A has favorable environment for the growth of this tree. In 2014 U.S.A produced 76% of the total production.
