Homemade Chinese New Year Sweet Rice Cake
Hi steemit friends,
The day after tomorrow is traditional Chinese New Year (year of dog). It is a tradition to buy or make New Year rice cake(nian gao) for new year celebration, in hopes of good fortune in the forthcoming year.
Nian gao 年糕(高) symbolizes in English as progress and growth. For old generation, It’s a popular gift when visiting family and friends during the holiday.
I made this sweet rice cake in a easier way compare to the traditional way. So all of you can try it out!
Ingredients needed
1 bag of rice flour 455g
330g brown sugar
400ml water
1 tbs peanut and some dried chinese dates
Methods
Sift rice flour to make it easier to mix into other ingredients when forming the cake batter,it also helps the texture of cake.
Mix everything well
Then prepare the baking dish with some fresh leaf(it adds some nature taste to the cake), pour the batter into the baking dish and put on some chinese dates and peanut as you wish.
Steam it for 60minutes
And it is done! I put a 福(lucky) stamp on the cake for my wishes:)
You can eat the rice cake once it’s steamed, it’s very sticky when it’s hot.
I think the best way to enjoy this Rice Cake is wait for it to cool, slice it, and then pan fry both sides with a bit of oilve oil.
It s can be stored in fridge for weeks! I wish this cake bring you a happy new year and best of luck!
