Have You Heard of This Traditional Dish - 'Pathrode' or 'Pathrado' ??

in #food6 years ago (edited)

Hi my dear Friends... Am here after two days as I was busy with some maintenance work of our house...
Today here I am with a nutritious traditional dish made using this particular leaf, Arbi or Arvi leaf, which is also called Colocassia or taro root....

This is the 'Arbi leaf' and we in my mother tongue Konkani call it as Pathrade Pana, and we call this dish as Pathrado! :)

In North India, the people call it Patra, and they make it using Gram floor...

Here the meaning of Pathra means leaf and ode means a dish. As this dish is made using mainly these leaves its called Pathrode!!

Now let's see how to make it. Take around 20 leaves, the tender ones, wash properly and remove the fiber portion from the back side of the leaf like this.

To make a roll, we have to smear with a dough and to make this dough, we need the following things...
Rice - 1 cup.
Tur Dal - 1/2 cup
Moong Dal - 1/2 cup
Red chilies - 8
Grated coconut - 1 cup.
Jaggery - 2 table spoon
Slat - 1table spoon.
Coriander seeds - 1 table spoon.
Tamarind - a small ball.
Hing or Asafoetida - 1/4 tea spoon.

Out of these things, soak rice and dals for 4 hours.

Then grind it in a mixer along with the above mentioned things, to make a thick dough (let it be bit rough, and not very smooth)...
Now add salt for taste and also a pinch of turmeric powder to this dough and mix well.

Now take a plastic sheet or a paper and place a pre - cleaned leaf on it like this. Smear it with the dough and put another leaf over it and again smear with dough. Go on continuing to form 5 to 6 layers like this. (If the leafs are small, we can use 2 to 3 leaves for a single layer.) Now fold at the sides and roll like this.
