One of the most important things needed for staying alive is the food, and its importance cannot be overemphasized, as it is a support system for the sustainability of our life form. According to a review carried out by the Harvard Business Review, there has been an exponential growth in the global population, as within the last century, global population has quadrupled, and the population is still growing at an alarming rate. This unprecedented growth has had major effects on food, as there is also an increased demand for food. Apart from having an increased demand for food, there are some food problems that also need to be dealt with: Wastage is a major factor affecting the demand-supply chain of food, as a lot of food gets produced and almost half of it gets wasted. Food wastage is a major factor affecting food production, demand and supply, and there are several reasons why this is so. Some of the reasons include: affordability, marketing, availability, etc. A lot of money goes into the production of food, and if at the end more than 40% of the food gets wasted, then the problem is not just about food wastage, but waste of resources used in the production of food, which invariably affects the economy too.

Delicia is a revolutionary blockchain based decentralized food network that is operating on a global scale, created with the aim to bring about a paradigm shift in the operations of food retailers and restaurateurs, while ensuring that food utilization is maximized and wastage is at its minimal. The blockchain technology has been efficient when applied to different industries and sectors, that efficiency is about to be replicated in the food industry. Delicia was created in such a way that excess food from grocery stores (including packaged food) and restaurants can be searched for in real-time, and the excess food can be discounted and sent to people based on demand. Hence, there will be a very big reduction in food wastage, which also translates to the fact that more people will have access to food, and get fed.

Functionality

Delicia is an Ethereum blockchain based network that also employs the services of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) for matching a customer’s food preferences, food and restaurant search patterns, and their location. By using A.I. Delicia is able to produce optimized search results based on the customer’s preferences. Furthermore, the system uses Smart Contracts in the backend for some areas of the network’s functionality. Users will be able to make successful wallet to wallet transactions while using the dedicated Delicia Food Tokens (DFT). Users on the food network will enjoy fast, transparent, and secure services. Delicia aims at making use of the Ethereum-based crypto community to gain more users, as the interim blockchain network is home to a lot of applications, which is a clear indication that there are a lot of cryptocurrency users on the Ethereum blockchain network.

I'm really interested in this project as a Chemical Engineer work in food industry. Food wastage is still one of the biggest problem the world faces. Delicia is introducing a solution for this problem integrating blockchain and A.I. technologies.Integration of latest technologies is a good sign that shows the project has a good future. As well as many countries are still finding a solution for this. Therefore, many countries will pay their attention to this project when it released as a globally working product.
