Recipe: Pavlova | An Australian classic.

Hey Steemians,

Pavlova is one of my family's favourite recipes to make. It is a common dessert found on Australian families' Christmas dinner tables but is also great for any occasion (like birthdays and dinner parties). 



Here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 cup of caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cornflour
  • 1 teaspoon of vinegar
  • Whipped cream
  • Caramelised Peaches and Figs (See an earlier post of mine for the recipe:). 

Method:

1. Separate 6 egg whites from their yolks making sure not to contaminate the whites with any yolks. Save your eggs yolks you can use these later in another recipe.

2. Using electric beaters beat the egg yolks until soft white peaks are formed.

3. As you beat the whites, gradually add in the 1 cup of sugar continuing to beat the whites.

4. Once the mixture is forming peaks and the sugar has been dissolved add in the vinegar and cornflour and fold the meringue mixtures.

5. On a baking tray place a sheet of baking paper. 

6. Place the meringue mixture onto the baking sheet and fashion into a circular or oval shape. 

7. Place in the oven and bake at 150 degrees Celsius for an hour.

8. Once baked, open the oven door and allow the pavlova to cool in the oven.

9. Dress the pavlova as you desire. The standard dressing is whipped cream and topped with fruit.

On this particular occasion we used some caramelised peaches and figs. You can also use fresh blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and a few mint leaves. It is really up to you.
