Vanilla Sweet : Ypovrichio📷

A classic, Greek traditional dessert, sweet and refreshing, comes from the past and brings beautiful childhood memories..Ypovrichio (submarine sweet-is actually dived into water ) is one of my favorite treat, especially in summertime. But even now, in winter, I have always one vanilla sweet stored in my kitchen, for these sudden cravings for sugar!

There are many different flavors-the most famous is mastic flavor- and aromas and even colors, but I prefer the vanilla, with the pure white color and the delicate fragrance.



“Dip a spoonful of vanilla sweet in a glass of cold water and enjoy”, write in the package of vanilla sweet. So, you need only a glass of cold water and a spoon..and your dessert is ready! It is licked like taffy. The vanilla paste becomes softer into the water and is easier to eat it! You also sip the water, that has an amazing sugary taste and is so refresing at the same time! If you want, as an alternative and “aromatic’ choise, you can add ice cubes, lemon slices, fresh lavender or mint leaves.

This sweet paste has a thick, chewy texture and it tastes and smells wonderful!

Sugar, glucose and vanillin are the basic ingredients of this traditional sweet treat. Vanilla sweet could also works as topping for cakes and muffins or as filling for biscuits.

As I said before, there are many different choices on the market for this special dessert, but a homemade version-if you have time and you are in mood-is certainly better and more delicious.

Sweet, silky and aromatic, are three words that fit with the Greek traditional sweet treat. You can only take a teaspoon and a cool glass of water and you will discover the unique taste of vanilla sweet..It worths to try it, when you have the chance..I’m sure that you will love it!
