This free food is called “Langer”. No one goes hungry. Everyone gets a hot meal . Everyone sits crossed-legged on the carpet in a line, the food is served by the volunteers. More than 90 percent volunteers are visitors. The food includes dal(pulses), vegetables, Roti(Bread or chapati) and a thick South Asian rice pudding called kheer.

The concept of langars was initiated centuries ago by Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion more than 500 years ago. It was designed to represent the principal of equality between all the people, the tradition of langar expresses the ethics of sharing, community, inclusiveness and oneness of all mankind.
