Eat Like You Love Yourself

Me

I love the saying “eat like you love yourself.” No matter what you do in life whether it’s relationships, school, exercise, work, or what you put on your plate- everything matters. You’re either moving toward a more positive outcome or moving further away from your goals! Eat like you love yourself says to genuinely focus on what you put into your body and make healthy choices because at the end of the day it will either have a positive effect or negative. Now, this is not to say I’m an advocate of eating a diet that makes you miserable. You should thoroughly enjoy the heck out of what you eat!

The trouble is that when you become accustomed to eating processed foods with artificial flavors and high in sugar it can create a dependency on those foods. When we eat sugar our brain releases dopamine, just like when people do drugs or when we see 'likes' and as evolution might dictate, up-votes. This dopamine release can even occur to the point where you think about a certain food your body will release the hormones that will cause your body to release the same hormones you would if you had eaten that food! The human body is an incredible machine.

Just how your body can adapt to anticipate these foods and become addicted to them, it too can adapt to stop the cravings and normalize your palate. The more you allow your tastebuds to adapt to a less processed base of your nutrition the more you’ll naturally produce all the right hormones that will help you make better food choices. The beginning might not be easy but small and consistent choice will help get you there!

Little by little you’ll get there and even the smallest amount of progress should be celebrated! One of the worst things you can do is trick your hormones when you’re sad or anxious and eat a pint of ice cream or tell yourself you’re going to share that box of Krispy Kreme 🍩 (Suuure you are 👌). When you eat these kinds of foods while you’re feeling down or stressed you reinforce that negative feedback cycle. You feel sad then you feel happy after over dosing on sugar. Do that a few times and your dopamine is going make that a very difficult habit to break! Show yourself some love and give your body some of the good stuff instead!

Here are some stress busting treats and things I like to practice regularly to help manage stress:

  • Kava tea🍵
  • 90% Dark Chocolate 1-2 squares🍫
  • Bach Flower Remedy 🌸
  • Dark Chocolate Avocado Pudding (don’t hate until you’ve tried it) 🥑
  • Arctic Zero (if you’re not watching your carbs!)
  • Turmeric Tea with MCT Oil
  • 1 shot of potato Vodka with sparking water and Essential Oils (1 shot = will yield a hormesis effect , 2 shots= cortisol production. Don’t have more than 1 if your goal is to relax and NOT further stress your body out! )

Wonderful article. I agree that we do need eat for our self preservation. Refined sugars reduce our lifespan and prevent us from healing with high quality foods. This is a golden article for all people.

Thank you @bitzone. Its so hard to kick the sugar habit especially when it's so culturally acceptable to have it in almost everything nowadays! I literally woke up and had a cake at my door today from my sweet neighbor. I think about my son's Jiujitsu Professor sometimes and try to model choices after the stories he told me! He has never, as is not once in his life, had caffeine, alcohol, or refined sugars. He's been on this planet long enough to have plenty of opportunities too!

Seems like a good list! Love eating a great salad or going to the gym and sweating out some toxins!
Following you!

Thanks @cryptoj215 ! Following you as well! It's funny you mention sweating it out in the gym- I have to force myself to take a rest day sometimes! I usually tend to over do it in the gym but for the past month my thing was to make sure I work on balance and make sure I'm getting the recovery I need!
