HOMEGROWN Farming - My Very Own Backyard Fresh Food Market.

in #food6 years ago (edited)

I try to grow as much of my own veg and herbs as I can, eating as fresh and untouched as possible. Doing as little as possible to fresh homegrown produce is probably the most effective way of gaining as much of the nutrients found in food.

I have managed to create a home garden filled with:

Spinach
Gem Squash
Beetroot
Cabbage
Tomatoes
Cherry Tomatoes
Potatoes
Peppers

I have now even managed to get a couple of coffee trees, of which one has not survived, but the other seems to be doing great, I am aware that this would be a labour of love and would probably only get some beans after many years, but I am fascinated to see if I could actually pull it off, and roast my own beans in a wok and grind and drink my very own home grown coffee.

Wow, now that would be something, lol I would certainly save a ton on buying beans.

Will have to wait and see, most of these have been grown from seeds, which amazes me and brings me great joy, to know that all of this was nurtured from scratch and now I get to use in my everyday cooking and general eating, and to top it all off, it is healthy :-) No pesticides, no preservatives, just the goodness from the earth :-)

Sounds good to me, win win, cost effective, healthy, organic living. am almost tempted to dig up my entire lawn and replace it with veg and herbs etc. not sure how the neighbours would feel about that though, as it seems the world is more concerned about aesthetics than other more important items we as humans need.

LESSON LEARNT:
Gardening/farming has taught me the importance of pruning dead leaves and branches to give new shoots the opportunity to grow better. Instead of wasting precious nourishment on that parts that are not growing anymore.

That in itself is a life lesson. Remove the things in your life that is not growing, to give new things a chance to flourish.

Happy Farming/Gardening.

stay blessed.

Blessed to have Southern Sun with lots of rain. next attempt: Mango, Bananas... hmmm

To grow your own coffee would be spectacular.
Best of luck.

@nanohousehold
That one has me the most fascinated, I had 2 trees the toher one did not do too well, but was a bit injured when I got it, but the second one has grown quite a bit since I got it, it was tiny, and now seems to be getting stronger by the day. So fingers crossed. Will keep posting on the progress and maybe one day even show off the fully grown coffee bean.

Curious to see how the coffee plant will turn out.
You must have an easy climate over there.
Over here in Northern Europe, growing wine is already ambitious.
(In some cases a greenhouse helps).

@nanohousehold
Yeah, we are blessed with tons of sunshine and good rain, so am just keeping fingers crossed, as I said, but certainly one of my more ambitious attempts. Looking so forward to my first grind. lol. as i am a coffee fan. I would impress myself if this did work. will keep you posted :-)

very good friend its amazing gardning

Thank you :-) Much appreciated

Upvoted! Love this post. Hope you have better luck growing coffee plants. I personally don't know anyone who's doing that. Must be really tricky. The life lesson here is also worth remembering, over and over. We hold on to things way too much and our minds get cluttered, unable to appreciate and take in anything new.

Indeed, thank you @gumbybear. appreciate your comments and encouragement, and yes, the life lesson is to pay attention and feed new "shoots" and give them the "nourishment" that is needed to grow :-)

stay blessed.

Your garden and organic produce are incredible- makes me want to jump on a plane. The rain and howling wind are pushing against our windows as I type.

@clodaghdowning
Thank you,
You welcome to visit, lol :-) plenty of sunshine on this side of the globe. Enjoy the rain. I love rainy nights though.

@xailer

Thank you :-)

Beautiful garden I want to have one like yours :) one day

@mihail.tsvetkov
Thank you. it is easy, just takes some time and care. and of course water and some sunshine :-)

Beautiful!!! I had a garden once and failed sooooo miserably....... Sigh....!

haha, that is funny, am sure it was not all that bad, lol. Just keep on am sure it will work out, maybe instead of starting with seeds get some small plants that have grown a bit, or what I do is just dig up some soil and then mix in some compost and fertiliser, and even some plant food, and then chuck a bunch of random seeds in cover it up and water regularly and keep my fingers crossed, lol

somehow I usually end up with some of the seeds growing.
Goodluck with the next attempt.
Thank you for your comment, made me smile.
