Flying Star Cafe
I’ve mentioned this cafe before in my list of vegetarian restaurants in Albuquerque, and with good reason; Flying Star Cafe is my absolute favorite restaurant, maybe not just in my city, but also of all time.
I remember being in Virginia with intense pregnancy cravings, and thinking longingly of the menu of Flying Star. Their menu is rife with local and organic foods, they take pride in the quality of their ingredients. Their menu offers an eclectic mix of a many types of food, not just New Mexican cuisine, like huevos rancheros and burritos. They also serve tofu topped noodles, Mediterranean salads, burgers for both vegans and carnivores, and the best French toast I have ever had.
On top of a varied and excellent menu that changes to suit seasonal available produce, Flying Star has some of the coolest interiors in their restaurants. They are all awash in vivid hues: clementine orange, bright aqua, satiny violet. The restaurants are colorful and eclectic, funky and fun. But the first thing you may notice is the dessert case, full of both beautiful and delicious things like pineapple upside down cake, carrot cake, danishes, muffins, cookies, and fresh pies.
