Ya Pear (Pyrus bretschneideri) is also known as Chinese white pear and is native to Northern China. It is said to taste like a cross between a pineapple and a rose having a crisp texture. The tree can grow to 60 feet and may live to 300 years. Pear wood is a hard wood that can be used to make fine furniture. Pears are a rich source of vitamin C and copper. While I'm a huge fan of pears, I've never come across this variety before. I'll keep an eye out for it though and let you know if I can find it.
