Restaurant Review 美食推送: Beach Babylon

When we were in Oriental Bay, Wellington, we went to a café called Beach Babylon for lunch. We knew of this place from an online review, attracted by two specialities that could be found on their menu: traditional fondue, and a menu for pet dogs that included dog biscuits and meat platters and special doggy drinks.

我们在威灵顿的Oriental Bay 游玩时去了一家叫Beach Babylon 的餐馆吃午餐。我们其实是在网上找到了这家餐厅。除了好评如潮外，这家餐厅有两个特点吸引了我们。第一，它们的特色菜是正宗的瑞士奶酪火锅。第二，它们除了正常菜单还有宠物菜单，有狗饼干，肉拼盘，还有宠物饮料给狗狗们选择。这么特别的餐厅，我们当然想去看看啦！

When we get there, there was no fondue, as they only serve fondue after 4pm, and there were no dogs that seems to be tucking into their famous meat platter. Nevertheless, the place was still very popular, so we went inside. It was a cold day, so we were happy to be given a table right at the back with comfy leather lounges and a large space. The retro themed decoration added a lot to the hippie atmosphere of the place, mood lighting and old vinyls on the wall took us straight back to the 50s.

然而，我们到了那里发现没有瑞士火锅（下午四点后才有），餐厅里也没有狗狗在吃饭。不过这餐厅生意还是挺好的，所以我们还是决定在这里吃。服务员给了我们一张在餐厅后方的大桌子，软软的皮椅和柔和的灯光让人觉得格外舒适暖和。餐厅的装潢挺复古的，墙纸黄色和棕色的配搭、坐灯旁的小木吉他、还有墙上的旧唱片，都让人恍惚回到嬉皮士的五、六十年代的感觉。

There was no fondue but there was another Switzerland speciality of offer – Rosti. Naturally that we were going to try one of those. We ordered a rosti with bacon, a seafood chowder, and a chipotle chicken quesadilla. A mixed of different kinds of food I know, but I guess that is typical of most cafes in both Australia and New Zealand. We also ordered a kids size pancake for M.All the food pretty much came at the same time. The Rosti is clearly not the authentic type, looking very different to the one that we had in Switzerland. Instead of lying all spread out on a dish topped with plenty of cheese, these rosti was like deep fried potato balls topped with eggs and hollandaise sauce, like a cross between egg benedict and hash browns. They were still delicious though. Bacon is always delicious. The potatoes too were done very well, crispy on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside. The eggs were cooked just right, and the golden runny yolk goes perfectly with the hollandaise sauce. Very delicious. It does feel like a hyped-up version of standard breakfast fare though.

虽然没有奶酪火锅，可是它们还有另外一种瑞士美食 — 瑞士薯饼Rosti。我们叫了一个培根薯饼，一个海鲜周打汤和一个墨西哥辣鸡肉夹饼。是不是有点像环游世界的感觉？其实在新西兰和澳洲很多咖啡馆都是这样，什么菜式都有。我们还帮M叫了一个小孩的香蕉松饼。所有食物基本上同时上桌。看来它们的薯饼并不正宗，和我们在瑞士吃的薯饼分别很大。我们在瑞士吃的薯饼真的像个饼，铺满了一个浅碟子，上面放上奶酪。而这里的基本上是个薯球，上面放了水煮蛋和荷兰酱，有点像薯饼和班尼迪克蛋的合体。不过这不正宗的瑞士薯饼还是挺好吃的。有培根嘛，培根总是好吃的！薯球也炸得不错，外皮香脆，内里松软。鸡蛋是煮得刚刚好的流黄蛋，金黄的蛋液配香浓的荷兰酱，超美味的，只是感觉就像一份美式早餐，仅此而已。

The Quesadilla’s presentation was not the best, but it was delicious nonetheless. While it was supposed to be chipotle, it was not spicy at all, but very flavoursome. The chicken was nicely grilled, tender and juicy, and goes very well with the black beans. The guacamole was good as well, but I wish there were more, as it did get a bit dry at the end without the guac and sour cream.

墨西哥夹饼的卖相不怎么样，可是味道还挺不错的。虽然说是用了墨西哥辣酱，可是一点也不辣。被香料和辣酱腌过的鸡胸肉香味十分浓郁，烤过后还混了炭香，鲜嫩美味的鸡肉配上烤香了的黑豆，真是十分不错。鳄梨酱也调制得恰到好处，只是份量少了些，吃到最后没有酱的夹饼还是有一点点偏干。

The seafood chowder looked pretty good, and the taste was good too, just not as good as the one that we had in Auckland. It was a bit too floury and coarse, but still satisfying for a cold day like this. I had a taste of M’s pancake too, they were light and fluffy, not too sweet, and with fresh banana slices as toppings it was a good choice for kids.

海鲜周打汤看上去不错，味道还行，可是没有之前在奥克兰吃的美味。这个周打汤粉有点多，口感有点粗糙，可是在寒冷的天气喝这个汤还是不错的。M的松饼我也尝了一点，非常的松软，甜而不腻，挺适合小孩的口味的。

Overall, the Beach Babylon was a reasonably good café. Nice atmosphere and staff, the food was good but with it being featured in quite a number of good reviews on the internet it was perhaps not as good as we expected. Maybe their fondue is awesome, or maybe we just didn’t order the right thing. Nevertheless, if you are in the area and looking for food, Beach Babylon is as good as any.

Beach Babylon 还是一家不错的餐厅，环境和服务都挺好，味道也可以，只是没有想像中那么好，看来网上的好评有点夸大其词，可能是我们没有点对吧，反正我觉得是中上，不能说是最好吃的，但是如果要在Oriental Bay 附近吃饭，Beach Babylon 还是可以考虑的。
