Some Local Pinoy Delicacy Called Tupig

in #food5 years ago

Hi Steemians,

Let me show you this local Philippine delicacy called "tupig"

It is made from glutinous rice, brown sugar and some strips of coconut. I do not really know the exact ingredients but judging from the taste, look and texture it will pretty much include all those I mentioned. When all the ingredients are combined forming a pasty sticky consistency it is then wrapped in banana leaves just like how you see it on the photo. Then individually wrapped tupig will be roasted on top of hot coals or I believe they are small burning stones. When the leaves are charred after roasting for a few minutes, they are good to go

If you open one packet it will look like this.

A closer look. It is preferred to consume them fresh from the coals or while they are quite hot. Otherwise the texture will become sticky rubbery and hard to chew. On this photo they are already stiff and not that good anymore. These were bought from a vendor cooking them by the roadside that explains the newspaper wrap

Thanks for dropping by
