[Cooking Class] How to cook the perfect steak 🥩 at home [3 easy steps]

in #food6 years ago (edited)

Today I want to show you how to cook a perfect #steak at home. You don't need an expensive grill! The only things you need are:

1. A good steak
2. A pan (if possible: a cast iron pan)
3. An oven.

First you have to preheat the iron pan. To do so set your stove to the highest level, add some oil into the pan and wait about 2-3 minutes until the pan and the oil are hot.
At the same time you can preheat the oven to about 100°C.

Little hint: Dip a wooden spoon into the oil. If small bubbles form around the wood, you are ready to go.

Now you have to sear the steak from both sides.:Recommended are 2 minutes per side.
I like the surface a bit crispier, so I usually roast for 3 minutes per side. In this case I fried one side for 2 minutes and one side for 3 minutes for demonstration purposes.
Most people find it visually appealing if you have well defined struts of the iron pan on the surface of the meat.

Take the meat out of the pan and put it in the oven, let it pass for a few minutes at 100°C.

Depending on the thickness of your steak this process will take more or less time:

  • If the steak is thinner than 3 cm (which I don’t recommend) I would not put it in the oven at all.
  • If you want your steak medium you can estimate about 5 minutes per additional cm, which basically means:
    • 4 cm thickness: 5 min.
    • 5 cm thickness: 10 min.
    • 6 cm thickness: 15 min.
    • and so on…

If you are unsure about the cooking time you can cut the meat at some point to check if it’s done as desired. But be aware: this will look a bit unprofessional afterwards… ;)

Finally remove the steak from the oven and cut it with a sharp knife.

Let it rest for a minute or two as this helps to relax the muscle fibers and the meat loses less of its tasty juice. Garnish with sea salt (coarsely) and pepper.

🥩Finished! 👍
