Food from England - Stereotypes

Food and Travel

As a frequent business traveller to England and across Europe I am used to deal with British people a lot. The Headquarter of my former company is in London. Being from Germany I am also confronted with the usual stereotypes people have about us. Germans are boring, not funny, blond, only eat Sauerkraut etc. - I take this with humour.

Our friends from England also have some stereotypes to handle such as having stiff upper lip, always talking about the rainy weather and in particular about the awful food.

There's a persistent rumour that spices weren't available in the UK until very recently. Well this stereotype might not be true at all. I got to learn a lot about spicy food being over in England and I must say I love the English food a lot. Some restaurants are really really good. Like this one we had a company event.

surprisingly it was indeed delicious :-)

I've had some memorable meals in England, and in Germany, too. That looks delicious!

I'm English and yep your right with the stereotypes, but there is such a passion for creating great food here in the UK. For anyone coming to the UK who likes Gin, you will be spoilt for choice :)

Sorry, you don't have enough BEER in your account. You need 10 BEER in your virtual fridge to give some of your BEER to others. To view or trade BEER go to steem-engine.com

As a Brit I think it's fair to say our food can tend to be either end of the scale. As a nation we seem to be slipping into a world of processed 'easy' food - you can tell this by the increasing size of the population (I mean as individuals and not as a whole :) ). Unfortunately the processed approach has now been adopted by many pubs and restaurants - such a shame.

At the other end of the scale we have amazing fresh produce through small independent retailers (farm shops and alike), good restaurants are generally amazing and not always expensive, there has also been an explosion in amazing street food. What I love about UK food is that it is now not clear what British food is. We're now a mix of so many cultures that the choice is almost endless; street food can be some of the best food around.

I live in a coastal region that isn't particularly wealthy and we have some of the most amazing Greek/Mediterranean I've ever eaten. It's so good it brightens up a rainy day (see what I did there?).
