Chinese New Year Visitations

If you guys don't know what we actually do during Chinese New Year and why it is the most important time of the year for us, then let me share a little bit on what goes down during Chinese New Year. For me at least...

Chinese New Year is when everyone goes back home to their family, whether he/she is living abroad for studies, career and even starting a new family somewhere else. At the end of the day, we as sons and daughters are required to go home to visit our parents, bringing along our own new family if we have one. This will happen year after year until our parents finally passed away then we'll have our very own Chinese New Year at our own house.

Over the years, I have been going back home to my hometown to stay with my family over the cny. It is during this time, most of our first and second day of Chinese New Year is when we go out visiting relative and friends. I used to remember my friends and I would gather at a designated spot and we convoy along with 5-10 cars all filled with friends to visit our friends around the city.

This year however, my friends circle has shrunk but it has also given me a good pace to get to know some new friends better and to visit their houses rather than the same ol' gang of friends.

My best friends

I spent day 1 of Chinese New Year just hanging out with my close friends. We've all been together since highschool years and these are the ones that remain. A lot of them went on with their own lives and it's good but we'll definitely miss them. These are the few good ones which will probably stick around for the rest of my life.

It was a good session just catching up and filling each other in with what's up and about our lives and where would we be heading next. A lot of us are now working in different places from each other so we only get to visit each other once a year.

Convoy of friends

This is actually the second house we visited because I forgotten to take photo of the first friend's house. But anyway... this is our little convoy of friends this year.

We went around visiting many houses and lots of food and goodies until we ended the convoy with dinner at my house. Mum made some delicious curry, satay and many more. I didn't snap any photos of the food cause we were all too hungry. But I'll leave this photo to end the night.

In a few days more, I will be back to KL and ready to crunch my way in life once again. I'll miss this and most importantly the people that held all this together.

Thank You

Happy Chinese New Year! Unfortunately, we are way too far away from our family to go back... but my mother was out here recently... we will be going to Den Haag this weekend, to see the cultural events that the Chinese embassy puts on each year. Lots of dancing music, and dragon/lion dances and firecrackers!

Ohh that's nice! The cultural events should be what we have here as well. Thanks! Going to head back to KL soon.

Sorry my own wish is coming late but happy chinese new year

Thank you :)

What a great tradition and wonderful way to spend time with family and friends!

Yeaps, it's usually during CNY that we meet and reconnect with friends and family who we've not seen for a year.

A great day to spend time with friends and family! 😉

It is thanks :D

Thank you so much for sharing that. It reminds my of the Scottish tradition of first-footing. On the first day of the year, from just after the clock strikes, folk go from home to home, in a crowd to wish their friends and families well for the new year. Traditionally, they brought with them something to eat (never be hungry), coal so they'd always have a fire on which to cook and for warmth and lasly a coin for prosperity. My Dad always took a bottle of whisky to share. LOL. So good to hear your traditions. Thanks @zord189 and all the best for your new adventure.

Ohh that sounds like a almost similar tradition to Chinese New Year. Here, the houses would usually cook up a feast for all the guests who comes to visit and we call it 'open house'. Some families may choose not to open house because it can get very tiring so they can just go out and visit their friends. Here, we exchange oranges with one another. The oranges represents gold.

Gong Xi Fa Cai @zord189!!!
May 2019 be a prosperous year for you, and get yourself a GF already this year ya!!

Thank you! Looking forward to 2019! :)

Eh... Now I think you look like your mom... Yeah, you definitely look like your mom!

Hahah yea, I actually look a lot like my mom. :)

Yeah, that's exactly what I wrote in the other post... :)

Hahah yea! I saw! :D You should see when my mum was younger in her teen years. Exactly looks like me.

Your parents look like a really lovely people 😊

You have a lovely family @zord189! Thank you for sharing a little bit of this trip home. Of course I had heard of Chinese New Year, but didn't know much about the traditions. This sounds like such a great thing to touch base with those you love. Especially (as you pointed out) since so many people end up moving away from where they grew up. Enjoy the rest of your time with dear friends and family!

Yeaps! Well, I'll be coming home tomorrow and before you know it, I'll be bothering you in discord again :)

Haha, well you know the bothering goes both ways...🏋️😜

What a wonderful way to start off the New Year!
How wonderful that you go visit your parents every year. How far do you have to travel?
That looks like great fun with your friends - what a wonderful tradition!
