Chelsea football club
Chelsea is one of major forces in European football. The London club has world’s greatest players in its squad and is the favourite of all the tournaments. Stamford Bridge is the Chelsea’s home ground. The Blues or the Pensioners is their nickname.
Chelsea owes its current success to Roman Abramovich, their owner. A Russian businessman purchased the Blues in 2003. Thanks to his investments, top footballers appeared in the team. The years since Abramovich came have been the most prosperous for Chelsea. With their new owner the club won 4 Premier Leagues, Europa League and the European Cup.
The most fortunate manager for the club was Jose Mourinho. The Special One came to Chelsea in 2004 and created one of the strongest lineups in the continent. Petr Cech was an impenetrable goalkeeper. John Terry was their leader of defence. Frank Lampard was a mastermind of team’s attacks. And Didier Drogba was their super scoring forward.
Mourinho left in 2007, but came back in 2013 to win one more League title. The manager was again dropped in late 2015 being replaced by Guus Hiddink. The leaders of today’s Chelsea are goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, defenders John Terry and Kurt Zouma, midfielders Cesc Fabregas, Willian and Eden Hazard, striker Diego Costa.
Chelsea isn’t succeeding in the Premier League this season, but it is still a major contender for a triumph in the Champions League.
