A BRIEF HISTROY OF THE FIFA WORLD CUP

in #football6 years ago

As we all know necessity is the mother of inventions. Due to The need for global football (soccer) event for the top footballing countries of planet Earth, this was even fueled by the fact of the Olympics’ restrictions against professional athletes. In 1930, The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) held Football’s first World Cup tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay 1930.
After football (soccer, to Americans) was removed from the program for the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles, FIFA President Jules Rimet helped to organize an international tournament known as the Fifa World cup in 1930. Much to the dismay and anger of European footballers then Uruguay, winner of back-to-back gold medals at the 1924 Olympic games at Paris and 1928 Olympic games at Amsterdam, was chosen to host the first World Cup and Her host city was Montevideo.

Largely due to the depression in Europe, virtually all European footballers, afraid that their day jobs and earnings would be off or already taken even still don’t exist when they returned from south America , were either unable or unwilling to participate in the tournament. Due to this uncertainty , some of the best European Footballing teams, including 3xOlympic gold medalist England and football fanatics Spain, Germany, Italy and Holland chose not to make an appearance at the first World Cup in Uruguay. However, when the host Nation Uruguay agreed to help pay traveling expenses, Jules Rimet the then Fifa president was able to convince Romania, Belgium, France and the then Yugoslavia to participate in the tournament. In Romania, the King then Carol, selected the Squad members himself and gave them a three-month leave from their jobs and guaranteed the players would be employed when they returned.

Going into the competition proper, both south American nations Argentina and Uruguay were the overwhelming favorites, while European nation France and North American nation the United States of America also fielded very good sides. France’s Lucien Laurent scored the first-ever Fifa World Cup goal. In its second game the second game of the competition, Argentina edged France 1-0 amid controversy over the referees bringing the game to an abrupt end six to seven minutes early. Once the problem was figured out, the referees had to bring the south Americans (Argentine players) back onto the field of play to finish the final minutes. After beating Europeans Belgium, the United States beat Paraguay to set up a semi-final all Americans match with Argentina, which they were beaten 6-1. Still, the semi-final placement was the best U.S. World Cup finish to date and hasn’t even come close.
In the first fifa World Cup final, held on July 30, 1930, up to 93,000 spectators were present as Uruguay the host nation beat Argentina 4–2 in a rematch of the 1928 Olympic gold medal game. Uruguay still won its second World Cup in 1950 with a 2-1 win over Brazil in Rio de Janeiro, a world cup which would bring brazil down to her knees and eight years later a star would be born known as Pele and this 17 year old is going to change the history of the fifa world cup forever even keeping the Jules Rimet world cup for their selves after winning it 3X.
