Oh man, what a match! 3-0 down on aggregate with just 45 minutes to play away from home, Tottenham produced an unlikely fightback against Ajax to book their place in the Champions League final against Liverpool. Lucas Moura was the Spurs hero completing a hat-trick in the dying seconds of added time.

Mixed feelings

I didn't really know what to make of last night. Being a Liverpool fan, my feeling was that Ajax would be the more difficult to play in the final (being the better team IMO) however playing Tottenham because it would be an all-English final would raise the stakes thus making it more of a coin flip.

In the end, I simply enjoyed watching another brilliant football match.

Game of two halves

It looked as if Ajax would run away with it. Two up by half-time, they were tearing Spurs apart.

I wanted Spurs to mount a comeback in the second half, in part to help expose chinks in Ajax armour. They duly did that carving through Ajax's defences as Lucas Moura bagged a brace in quick succession.

Flat track bullies

My conclusion was that, for all the free-flowing football Ajax struggle when put under pressure. They did it in the first leg against Spurs and again in the second leg. This time Spurs, and in particular Lucas Moura punished them.

As the game moved into the final minutes I fancied Liverpool's chances against Ajax. What I didn't reckon on was a last-second winner for Spurs.

Routine win please!

It sets up an intriguing final. Liverpool vs Tottenham. Both teams have reasons to believe their names are on the trophy. Spurs in particular with their last minute of the second leg drama against Man City (where VAR disallowed a City goal) and now Ajax.

For Liverpool, the final represents a golden opportunity to really kick-start the Klopp era and hopefully a period of trophy collecting. They certainly have the squad that merits it (but I'm biased).

I'm hoping for a no thrills comfortable win for Liverpool in the final. However, something tells me the football gods have more drama in store!!
