Brighton & Hove Albion have parted ways with club manager, Chris Hughton, the club announced.

Hughton leaves the club after four-and-a-half years, having joined them in December 2014.

Brighton survived relegation in the closing stages of the league by just two points, having won just 11 points out of a possible 54 points in 2019.

After Hughton joined the club, he helped stabilise the team, before qualifying them for the Premier League in 2017 and has helped them sustain in the league for two seasons.

The club have however decided to part ways with the manager nonetheless. Hughton is not the only one to leave, as his assistant, Paul Trollope and first team coach Paul Nevin have also left the club.

Club chairman, Tony Bloom said in a statement that, it is perhaps the toughest decision he has had to make but was left with no choice, following their unimpressive run of just 3 wins in 23 Premier League games.

He however noted that he felt the time was right for a change and wished Hughton well, while also reaffirming that, the Seagulls and their faithfuls will always be grateful to the former Ireland International and that he is always welcomed at the club.

Hughton guided Brighton to 15th place in their first season, when they amassed 40 points and made 9 signings during the transfer windows.

Despite this huge number of signings, which included club record signing, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, they finished the 2018/2019 season, two places lower that last season, in 17th and four points lesser.
