Toronto FC won their first MLS Cup after dominating Seattle Sounders 2-0 last night. In a replay of last year's final, which Seattle won on penalties, Toronto FC controlled the first half, and but for Swiss goalkeeper Stefan Frei they would have been home and dry.

The Canadian side continued to dominate in the second half and former Sunderland and Hull striker Jozy Altidore finally broke the deadlock in the 67th minute, latching onto Sebastian Giovinco's through ball to strike past Frei from inside the box. Victor Vazquez rounded off the win from close range in the 94th minute to hand Toronto their first title since forming in 2005.

Giovinco should have scored in the first half, and with only Frei to beat the Swiss keeper somehow managed to deflect the ball wide, and then moments later Frei saved Giovinco’s shot from the edge of the area. Frei was at his best again to deny Victor Vazquez's long-range effort just before half time.

Toronto picked up where they left off in the second half, forcing more saves from Michael Bradley's volley and Giovinco from 15 yards, and the Canadian outfit began to smell success.

The first goal finally came midway through the second half. Altidore, looked to be offside as he was played through on goal by Giovinco but the linesman’s flag stayed down, he then took a touch and slotted the ball past Frei.

Seattle finally began to put pressure on late in the game, but Toronto sealed the win on the counter. Armando Cooper ran with the ball and rounded Frei, but his shot hitting the post the on running Vazquez was first to the ball as he bundled it over the line. It wasn’t pretty but it was enough to hand Toronto their first ever MLS title and there were wild celebrations among the Toronto fans.
