FRAMED: Cat on Couch and the Philosophy of Material

Concept

The initial concept of this shoot was to capture my cat in sleeping poses. She was very contemplative and the contrast of her on the dark leather couch was both a brightness contrast and a contrast I wanted to talk more about.

The animal on a couch made of animal skin. Isn't it weird to have an animal skin couch? Especially when our distiction of what makes a pet / food is a very blurry line. A cow may be friendly but doesn't typically constitute a pet, therefore it's food and material. But why isn't a cat or a dog also food and a material?

After seeing these images, what is your boundary of what defines a pet vs. food? Why is wearing leather an okay thing to do, but when people wear fur they are looked down on?

What is FRAMED?

Framed is an artistic and fashion photography series exploring creativity and collaborative artistry. Each shoot has a different concept and is approached with a different mindset, skillset, and toolset.
