FRAMED! Professional High-Fashion Acrylic Shoot II Part 1/3: Concepting and Testing
Tangram and Layering Inspiration
After the first shoot, I wanted to play with the idea of layering more. Initially, the acrylic plan was to do a single piece. Once we get into the studio and take our time on the setups, individual pieces don't seem to be as interesting as when we add shapes. This got me thinking and I talked with the other photographer who agreed.
This time around, we're going to be using the same pieces of acrylic, but shooting them differently. The vision is to have models in beauty makeup, and do layered acrylic featuring different ways to use the light more so than before.
I pulled a couple of images that inspired this process:
Previous Shoot and Recycling
There were moments in the previous shoot which were TOO simple I think.
What may work well is more stuff like this. The layered look gives a sense of depth, color mixtures, cool contrasts, etc. I think a physical depth to it would be really nice as well, especially when the depth of field is a little down.
The benefit to doing another shoot with these same acrylic pieces is the ability to both save money and create something unique while not wasting the plastic sheets. It will be fun to experiment using the knowledge we had before. Bring more microfiber cloths and some cleaner to help make the acrylic sheets less to edit in post. Another perk is that we can use our lighting stands and know what it takes to hold these things, and how not to scratch them even more in the process.
Attempts
I went over to the photographer's studio this time and we experimented with a couple of cool ways to show the acrylic off. It appears that it's simple, but showing up on the film is a different experience.
This is when we started adding more and more layers, slight angles, and seeing what would be picked up as like a jungle, or thousands of shards of acrylic on camera.
And then we just got more and more crazy with it. I found that the more complex, and crazier the angles, the cooler it looked. We took a few photos of this setup and made sure that we would be able to replicate this later.
Thanks for taking a look, and until next time. I can't wait to go through the next part with you guys.
I love this man. (Chris here). Beautiful work. Original, just cool!
