RE: Youtube Will Intensify Censorship

in #freedom6 years ago

One DNC or Bloomberg sponsored progressive with a million SP could silence anyone they wanted on Steemit.com, but why would anyone spend any sort of money to silence anything on a site with only 60,000 active users?

One thing to remember is that any website can censor anything they like, it's their site. On the other hand I think at this point you could make a fairly strong argument that sites like FANG are essentially no different from public accommodations like a hotel or lunch counter and that they should be barred from discriminating against users. You would have to also redefine discrimination to include political affiliation as a protected class. Right now you can kick someone out of your restaurant for their political views.

Yup, but my point is, it's harder. In Steemit for example you have communities and people who vote to remedy unfair flags, the issue of restaurants or other businesses is not the same, there are many more restaurants, when we talk about social networks is very different because the only ones that are really great are twitter, facebook and instagram. Leaving aside Youtube of course.

Also, in the case of steemit any censorship would not be good for the platform, quite the contrary.
