Venezuelan authorities announced a US citizen was released after spending two years in prison on charges of concealing weapons.

Joshua Holt and his girlfriend Thamy Candelo will return to the United States on the orders of President Nicolas Maduro.

Holt's release came more than a week after he posted a number of videos during a riot in jail to Facebook. He pleaded for help from citizens and the US government. In one video he said, "I have appealed to the government for two years, they said they did something, but the fact is I am still here."

Holt is a Utah-born mormon missionary who traveled to Caracas in June 2016 to marry his girlfriend, Thamy Candelo.

The plan, after marriage, the couple and Candelo's children will move to the United States.

While waiting for an exit visa, Holt and his wife were suddenly arrested on charges of concealing weapons.
