I have an alternative search engine. Not Google. Because I'd found that Google was skewing its searches to this profile it had built for me.

So do I -- for pretty much the same reason.

There is even a discussion in a segment on Netflix between David Letterman and Barack Obama about how the search engines are skewing reality because of what they "present" for different people to read -- and is contributing hugely to the political divide we are facing.

People don't seem to realize how important accurate information is -- and how ... if you can control the flow of information ... you can control the world. This is why Wikileaks has powerful people crapping themselves. (Sorry. But that image is pretty accurate.)

Oooh that makes me mad! Even though I know it's true. Up to about a year ago, Google was profiling me as a 65-year-old man, and I was happy to let them carry on thinking that. It meant that on YouTube (owned by Google) I had a lot of hilarious ads for Tena Men (a kind of incontinence pad).
Yes, information is power. Simple as that.
