Knowing the Difference Between Fiverr and Upwork

in #freelance4 years ago (edited)

Most of the time I introduce freelancing to people, one of the first five question they often ask is what is the difference between Fiver and Upwork. My answer is always the same "The two freelancing platforms are great, but they are based entirely on your choice or experience while working on the platform.

Generally speaking, most US citizens prefer Upwork to Fiverr. Though, I often think it is based on this is based on the sentiment that Upwork is a US-based company. And the company also exhibits this by designing a special job feed for people in the USA. If you are a freelancer from other countries, you will often see some jobs that Upwork will tell you; only freelancers in the US can apply for it.

But apart from that, Upwork has some unique features that are missing on Fiverr, like the call feature, attaching sample when applying for a job, exchanging private contact with Clients on Upwork, and others.

However, Upwork has its turn off, too, like the introduction of the connect system whereby freelancers need to buy connect before they can apply for jobs. Ironically, a freelancer can keep buying connect and still not get any job, which will result in loss. And this is why I often say Upwork is not cool for someone without any prior experience on Freelancing.

I believe this is where Fiverr comes in. Every freelancer on Fiverr can apply for ten buyer requests every day. Isn't that interesting? Furthermore, a new freelancer can create up to 7 gigs on any niche he or she prefers. Though, creating these gigs might be a nightmare at times, especially someone without any guidance whatsoever. All the same, it is excellent!

Another thing you might want to know about the difference between Fiverr and Upwork is the competition between the two freelancing websites.

COMPETITION BETWEEN FIVERR AND UPWORK

The rivalry between the two leading freelance platform is apparent, and the two platforms have been stylishly stealing different features that set both of them apart from themselves, so much that one might not be able to identify what makes them different.

The Fiverr buyer request section is just like a clone of the Upwork job feed. While the Upwork style of invitation to apply for work is a pickup from the Fiverr style of operation. Other related features are specialized profiles and others. And for Fiverr, the introduction of a milestone for services up to 100 dollars and above.

TALKING ABOUT FAKE AND FRAUD JOB POSTS ON UPWORK AND FIVERR

Based on my experience as a freelancer on Fiverr and Upwork, I can confidently say there are very few fraudulent acts about Fiverr clients. I think the most common ones are the freelancers that will allow you to complete their project and start looking for excuses to cancel the job. And it is rare.

Meanwhile, talking about Upwork, it believes it is the second freelance platform with a high rate of fake jobs. You will see about seven unverified jobs on a single job feed. Even clients with verified payment still make different approaches to rob you of your time and make you do free work. It would be best if you were on a watch out anytime you are applying for job on Upwork to save yourself wasted efforts and time.

Upwork will notify you anytime you want to apply for such kind of work.
